JULIAN BERKOWITZ

Julian Berkowitz is a drummer and educator residing in Washington, DC. Rooted in the deep tradition of American jazz, fusion, rock, and the rhythms of Brazil, Julian has quickly become one of the DC area’s most in-demand drummers. Julian was born and raised in the small town of Easton, Connecticut. He moved to Washington, DC in 2013 to attend The George Washington University, where he was fortunate to study with virtuoso Brazilian drummer Alejandro Lucini. Julian graduated from GWU in 2017 and has quickly made a name for himself in the DMV music scene. 

Julian has performed and/or recorded with jazz musicians like Benny Benack III, Kris Funn, Chuck Redd, Michael Bowie, Corcoran Holt, Mike Pope, Bill Heid, Thad Wilson, and José André. Additionally, Julian has performed and recorded with rock/country artists such as Sam C. Jones & Eli Lev and singer-songwriters such as Elizabeth Lane & Kyle Guffey.

Julian has been teaching drum lessons in the DMV area for 5 years and is excited to bring his expertise to Del Ray School of Music. He has experience teaching drums across multiple genres like rock, jazz, funk, & fusion.
